"Stelle Olimpiche" Testimonial of Lombardini Cup - Trofeo Bernetti

Trieste 22th september 2009

The press conference for the presentation of the latest Lombardini Cup took place today at 11 am in the Roger, by the seaside of Trieste, at the presence of Dr.Aldini, president of Lombardini Marine.

Testimonial for the event was the Stelle Olimpiche team.

Larissa Nevierov was the official spokeswoman for a team of highly skilled and internationally appreciated athletes.

They are the first team in Italy (and possibly in the whole world) to comprise only Olympic-caliber female athletes specialized in different disciplines, who spontaneously joined forces to share the passion for sports and to put themselves to the test by sailing as a crew on a single ship.

The Stelle Olimpiche team was created in September 2008 by female athletes from Friuli Venezia Giulia, such as Margherita Granbassi (foil, two bronze medals in Peking) and Chiara Cainero (GS Forestale, gold medal for skeet in Peking).
The idea turned out as a great success and the team was joined by more and more regional and national athletes.

The crew is now composed of Gabriella Paruzzi (gold medal in Salt Lake City 2002 for cross-country skiing and four times bronze winner in Albertville ’92, Lillehammer ’94, Nagano ’98 and Torino ‘06), Elisa Riguado (20-kilometers march, bronze in Peking 2008), Valentina Turisini (rifle range, silver medal in Athens 2004, GS Forestale) Martina Miceli (water polo, gold medal in Athens, Catania), Giulia Quintavalle (judo, Fiamme Gialle – gold medal in Peking) and the water polo player from Carrara Maurizia Cacciatori.
Manuela Di Centa, Olympic cross-country skier, has also recently joined the team.

Each one of these girls has spent most of her life training, day after day, with passion and hard work, stubbornly facing all sorts of obstacles and managing to combine studies, sports and family, thus becoming a model for other young athletes.

The Stelle Olimpiche team has already sailed in the Trofeo Beretti, winning the category prize in 2008.

The Trofeo Bernetti takes a place of honor in the autumnal sailing events in the Golfo di Trieste.
The 38th edition of the Trofeo is a coastal regatta that takes place on the first Sunday of October, one week before the famous and crowded Barcolana race.

The Lombardini Cup was created to help divulging important values such as the passion for the sea and for sports, the safeguard of environment and the commitment in facing new challenges, respecting rules and friendship.

The Stelle Olimpiche team has been chosen as an exceptional testimonial for the event, due to their continuous effort in divulging a healthy sport culture.

The Stelle Olimpiche team has just sailed the Centomiglia del Garda race, where it amazed the spectators with its astonishing determination in facing the challenges.
The team showed that doing high-level sports is possible through great dedication and real passion.

For all these reasons, the Lombardini Cup circuit, in its last stop in Trieste, has found in the Stelle Olimpiche team a valid supporter for the promotion of sailing, even among newcomers.
